Staff who work in a range of agencies that provide support to adults with learning disabilities who may be experiencing or at risk of financial abuse.

  Learning Outcomes :
  • Identifying who is particularly vulnerable to financial exploitation.
  • Identifying various circumstances which make people vulnerable.
  • The role of Trading Standards/Police and England’s Illegal Money Lending Team.
  • Overview of the MCA re: Capacity/LPA/Deputies and cases involving financial abuse.
  • Coercive control and the complexities where a person is deemed to have capacity to make ‘unwise’ decisions.
  • How to report concerns if you believe either an LPA or Court Appointed Deputy is financially abusing.
  • The role of the Court Appointed Visitor regarding financial abuse.
  • What support is available for the victim and family.
